As the Michigan high school basketball season heats up, separation is starting to show between contenders and pretenders. Week 7 brings movement throughout the rankings, statement wins, and dominant individual performances. Here’s the latest Sports Kickback Top 12, with a breakdown of each team’s current form.
1. East Lansing
East Lansing remains the clear-cut No. 1 in the state, extending their impressive winning streak and continuing to dominate quality competition. The driving force is KJ Torbert, who is playing like the best player in Michigan by far. His combination of scoring, leadership, and two-way impact has elevated East Lansing into championship mode. Right now, they’re setting the standard statewide.
2. Brother Rice
Brother Rice holds strong at No. 2 behind what is arguably the best backcourt in Michigan. Greg Grays and Jordan McDaniel continue to control games on both ends of the floor. Their statement win of the week came in a 35-point blowout over then-No. 7 Kalamazoo Central, proving just how dangerous this team can be when clicking.
3. Muskegon
Still undefeated, Muskegon remains one of the most consistent teams in the state. Led by James Martin and AJ Lambers, the Big Reds continue to overwhelm opponents with physical play, depth, and discipline. Until someone hands them a loss, Muskegon firmly belongs in the top tier.
4. East Kentwood
